NZ’s exposure to source countries for medical supplies
Critical Supply Chains - Inbound
Inbound supply chains - air and sea freight - represent different supply risk based on country origin. Initial focus has been medical and research supplies for PPE, ventilators, test kits (communicated to NZ health authorities). Currently only Asian countries - especially China - are able to supply, while historic focus has been Europe and US. Hot competition means establishing new supply lines via trusted contacts, and arranging scarce freighter resources. Database includes all air and sea freight movements over a 5 year period. Other important categories include Building Materials and an ability to restart the economy in this sector. Similar scarcity and non-traditional sources apply in key categories. Analysis has also identified opportunities for import substitution manufacturing, based on value of imported products.
NZ’s exposure to key export markets by category
Critical Supply Chains - Outbound
Some export markets are are under stress depending on ability to consume (affordability) and distribute in market (restrictions on movement). Some freight modes are significantly restricted due to overall volume declines and freight capacity leaving the market. Identifying opportunities for continuity of trade is critical to key industries and local economies where production takes place.
Digital mines and relationship of data and business processes
Mines are Digitising
Like many industrial settings mines are digitising for improved health and safety, productivity and asset effectiveness. Multiple technologies and business processes must be made to work together to achieve theoretical targets, presenting opportunities and threats for OEM’s and service companies. The panacea of a “digital twin” may help parties collaborate, and drive consolidation through “digital selection”.
